Mole (Sheriff) 1961

This furniture comes from an order by photographer Otto Stupakoff. He wanted in his studio a sofa to spread out like a sultan and Sergio Rodrigues responded with a sturdy, comfortable sofa that expresses Brazil in design and identity  – the Mole sofa.
The Mole armchair is a reduction of the sofa made in 1957. In 1961 it was edited by the designer to participate in the International Furniture Contest in Cantú, Italy. There it gained 1st place and its glory, competing among 438 models from 27 countries.
“Na Poltrona Mole não se senta, refestela-se”, wrote the journalist Sérgio Augusto. At a book of 1975, the designer and critic Clement Meadmore considered it “one of the most important seats of the 20th century”. The Mole armchair is also part of the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
